How Dlcs and mods reveal spoiled gamers
Hello, everyone. I just wanted to have a quick wrap up about what's been going on today after the whole Starfield DLC drama.
I'm just so tired at this point, but I'll just say, I don't know why people are so entitled these days wanting everything NEW for FREE.
When you're a fan you're always been called a SHILL or a PR rep for a company.
No, you have to be a "real fan" and bad mouth everything and gloat about how much you have lost faith and left. Just another day in toxic gaming...
MODS
I know when it comes to modding, as I've said before about the internet, we have just become so familiar to expecting free content on our digital fingers. We want free images, free posts, free info, free materials, free MODS, so much free stuff just because of our nature of how the internet is built around file sharing.
This can also result into people becoming SPOILED and having an attitude to wanting everything for FREE and expecting others to comply like a good little content slave.
Which also in their end taints the well nature of the internet too.
This is where we are now, an internet ecosystem of people that subconsciously always post for free on websites, with people that subconsciously expect free stuff on websites, without regard to others that ask for donations or commissions to support themselves.
A problem so grave at this point that social media wants YOU to feel ENRAGED if you ever encounter someone asking for donations or wanting to support themselves financially.
Which brings me to a comment I made earlier somewhere else that just fits perfectly:
"People expect contributions to the community, but don't value supporting those that do contribute."
People want free bread without actually having to be the one that works for it. Seriously, what kind of socialist slave dystopia does the internet live in??
Some people LOVE when anyone provides something for free to us, but LOATH at their part to also support others when the option is on the table. And no, don't say "I'll just support someone's donation or their patreon" because we are at a time where people feel the need to do neither and head straight onto piracy just to get that exclusive content without supporting others.
Free community contributions, without the community supporting in return.
I was so fed up with how people have become spoiled, I simply searched for spoiled and found this ironic piece that has aged wonderfully. So I placed in the modern gaming context.
So what does this have to do with the Starfield update?
Well Bethesda is finally making it legally possible to support our favorite modders giving people what they wanted for years
"BETHESDA SHOULD PAY MODDERS. OR. MODDERS NEED TO GET PAID."
Well, here we are in 2024 when supporting modders have become official....and people HATE IT.
Complaining everything from "its being forced on us(when mods are optional)
to "bUgThESda is making my single player a live service(when the 2 types of a cash shop are not even closely the same. one unlocks to play, the other adds in content to your game like good old sweet mmo cash shops)"
to "I dont want to pay for that! I want it for free. It should have been in the game(not wanting to buy NEW content add ons because they feel entitled to these bonus materials)"
This topic alone has created the most hypocritical gamer to be revealed by where they stand.
-PEOPLE LOVE AND PRAISE MODS AND YAP ABOUT HOW THEIR MODS ARE WAY BETTER THAN VANILLA GAMES!
-PEOPLE HATE SUPPORTING MODDERS BY CALLING THEM SLAVE HOBBYISTS & HATE THE THOUGHT OF PAID MODS BY STEREOTYPING THEM ALL AS SCUMMY PAY WALLS.
.......
So, when gamers don't want to support modders, and demanding to CLAIM all future bonus content for free to their already finished game, we have arrived to toxic gaming in 2024.
DLCs
The last part I want to address is the DLC 100 big o bucks.
Yes, this might seem like a mountain.......IF YOU NEVER BOUGHT THE GAME BEFORE.
A high quality next gen game sells for what? 49? 59? 60 ish depending if theyre originals, remakes, or sequels.
And how much does a newly released DLC cost? 20? 30? or in the case with ELDEN RING 40?
Sure, put that all together, and you will not like the 100$ price. But just remember, DLCs are EXTRA content. Be glad you cheap gamer! Not all games like Hogwarts Legacy even receive a DLC package.
One of my favorite classic games is TIMESPLITTERS: FUTURE PERFECT. I would LOVE to have more content in that game today.
Or take Skyrim. I can't imagine playing Skyrim without the Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLC.
Or what about Dark Souls? Don't they have their own beloved Dlcs?
Imagine if Dark Souls gamers said "I dont want to buy this new DLC because the new future content should have been there already!"
--
Some gamers want to hide under their nihilist comments saying
"no no, you see. the base game is so hallow that I was robbed. Thats why Its a crime to charge me for the *cough* new Dlc content. You just gave me an unfinished game! *cough* gimmi this new DLC for free!"
like what
do we mean empty? Is Starfield not a complete game itself? Or do people
always just envy the nonfictional "more x."
Ring a bell?
This same thing happened to Cyberpunk. People that just WORSHIPED the demos and pre production always used that as a means to say "no, no. but the demo had this. and the final release did something different. but the DLC has new stuff, so I deserve this new stuff because...because...I didnt have my way by getting those few pre-production demo features.
Even though in Cyberpunk2077 the devs chose to change focus on their official game, that, surprise, the official game didn't match the previews, AS MOST GAMES DON'T BEFORE THEY RELEASE.
So, because some gamers WORSHIPED the hype demos, were salty that their one little feature wasn't implemented, most now go around saying "I DESERVE THE DLC BECAUSE I WAS LIED TO AND SOLD AN EMPTY GAME (despite Cyberpunk2077 day 1 being a fully finished game and only in time received more content and bonus material like the EdgeRunners update)."

Anyways, long detour to say. No, you don't get to claim your already finished game deserves the future NEW dlc, no matter how much you complain. You aren't entitled to other people's labor for free.
And second, if you're complaining about 100$,
just remember most 100$ games are special in being Premium editions, Deluxe Editions, etc.
Games NEVER GET released for 100$$$$ !
They launch at the normal 49? 59? 60 ish depending if theyre originals, remakes, or sequels.
You have plenty of time to save up to buy that base game. Even getting them on huge sales!
Games ONLY reach 100$ total when the DLC releases.
59-60ish$ game, 30$ dlc = 80-90$ ish total.
THIS IS NORMAL FOR GAMES THAT GET SUPPORT ENOUGH TO RELEASE A DLC.
Dlcs are extra content......I can't stress that enough. They are optional packages.
If you're a gamer, you might be thrilled about your favorite game releasing its own DLC.
If you're just a cheap gamer ranter, you might spin this narrative to LOATH on having to pay for new stuff.
Just remember,
not all games get enough support to release a DLC.
Some games just stay in they're 40, 50, 60 ish price tag without any new content.
Or if you're like Sony, just release Horizon sequel, not as a dlc but as another game.
So you end up buying Horizon 1 for 59, and Horizon sequel for another 59.
Furthermore, the understandable approach would be someone that already owns the base game getting reward with a discount or ability to be gifted for free on special events.
But the saltyness really comes from people that taint the whole release by demanding Dlcs should just be given because they think they deserve it for x made up rant.
Which of course is the equivalent of "I made a huge tantrum, bombed the negative scores, so change your ways and reward me now."
Plus, if you're complaining about a 100$ game, that includes their new DLC,
you really should have bought the base game a long time ago, then you'd only have to think about upgrading. It's not like DLCs are fast released, games get 1 year, 2 years, even 3 before they actually release.
RIP to those that missed out and now are also looking at that shiny new DLC. Buy one at a time and join the club. The rest have recovered their 40, 50, 60ish drop. That 30ish is just chump change.

footnote
Cyberpunk Deluxe edition is 88$
Elden Ring Deluxe is 100$
Jedi bundle is 100$
GTA5 is 90$
THESE ARE ALL GAMES WITH BONUS DLC CONTENT. DONT LIKE? JUST BUY THE BASE GAME THEN!
