You were told to hate Bethesda
So, hello everyone. I'm just stopping by to write a quick blog post that is way too big to make a simple twitter post or image. So, I just want to get this out of my head because it's been killing me inside for a couple of months now.
As you guys know, I don't like to engage in video format when I discuss these topics because doing so will not really attract like-minded people that are calm and collected, but would rather fuel the gasoline to the hundreds of thousands of keyboard-ready ranty people online. Just releasing ANY amount of content addressing ranters is EXACTLY what ranters want, because they have nothing better to do than to be attracted to someone flaming their ego and wanting content to reply to.
So, I'm just keeping this on a blog post. Today, I will be discussing what I am most passionate about in terms of my favorite genre, Gaming. And when it comes to Gaming, I am the most passionate about covering the SHAME of how gamers have treated Bethesda and Bethesda games over the course of the last 10 years or so.
So, let me break it down by easy to read points I will begin debunking as I remember and return to these topics by days or weeks to come.
1. Bethesda Communities are officially TOXIC
Bethesda communities are definitely a toxic fanbase now. There's just no easy way of sugar coating the truth. If you're considering stepping into this community because you're curious about playing any Bethesda game, just know beforhand that you are walking into a very ranty and elitist community if you plan to stick around long enough.
Your average Bethesda gamer these days are in no short supply with your average egotistical nerd always sighing below their breath how superior they are to anything Bethesda. Seriously, I could be watching a random streamer on Twitch, and sooner or later they will say something in the line of "yeah, it's trash.... they don't know what they're doing...i have no faith....im not paying full price.....its buggy....its a bethesda game....
Just take your pick and play some bingo and wait until someone says something in this fashion. But why???? BECAUSE A LOT HAVE BEEN TOLD TO REPEAT THE SAME OPINION BECAUSE OF YOUTUBE and whatever sensational BS article they read about in gaming.
But, as a fan myself, I can tell you exactly the 2 reason why the majority of Bethesda content creators are like this now.
1. Many have been spoiled by years of FREE mods that many now feel entitled TO someone else's mod release.
2. Any of the huge Youtube Gaming content creators. Pick your poison. Whether its Asmongold and his dumb opinions that cater to his mindless thousands of followers and gain millions of views per clip, or any other Gaming content creator that has a PERSONAL bias to slander Bethesda and at the same time profit and say good things about other games they never dare to criticize.
The first has affected the actual fans that play Bethesda games. Because even in mods, many that come in through mod review videos, often stop by as a casual fan, and stay as a permanent fan BECAUSE they are constantly told that the only way to play Skyrim is by installing as many lore breaking and absurd mods. Which itself creates many fans of today that scoff at the sheer idea of vanilla skyrim, which was pre-fallout76 launch, seen as a masterpiece of gaming, even in vanilla.
The second, is NO ONE. Literally NO one, is regulating ranty content. We are in a very early age of the internet where just 10 years ago we had a boom in mobile smart phones and sign ups in social media apps for the non-tech user to enter. It's sad to say, but change is still developing. Right now, there is NO amount of consequences when it comes to clickbait videos that profit from advertisement-sponsered content creators that openly slander a company or their product. Just go ahead and search on Youtube. There is a PROFIT community of people that just make the most clickbaity and gossip related videos to post. In short, you open up a youtube account, you begin uploading videos ranting about this and that in gaming, you sit back and enjoy the sensational likes and views sky rocket. Complain about what x company is doing, upload a clickbait thumbnail with a disapproving image, repeat.
I feel like I'm the only one sometimes addressing the harm that these ranty youtubers create into the Gaming spaces that we all enjoy. I just know that I am one of the first because the games I play fall into the category of what games Ranters love to complain about. Its no coincidence. Its 100% a bias. It's a bandwagon train.
Just the fact that review bombing exists in gaming, is proof enough that you can not trust independent gossiping youtubers anymore than you can trust payed gaming review articles.
If I had a million viewers on my channel, I in reality have A LOT of power when it comes to shifting my viewers to do my unregulated bidding whether that's to go out and slander a company, bully someone else, or tell them what to think politically. It's whatever. These are the symptoms of being in an early age of digital access. Unregulated consequences in the power of individual creators that should not have a professional effect or credibility to real world actions.
It's no surpise. Gaming now has become filled more and more by cynical gamers that LOVE to complain and rant about literally anything. People love to live off their toxic vibe and spread it to other communities. Rare are those that actually are chill and enjoy gaming in these days.
It's way more brave to dare to call yourself a fan now in public. Unless you're angry, petty, and ranty, you're going to stick out and be isolated by others eventually.
I love Elder Scrolls games, therefore I like Bethesda and their releases. I'm just sick of what my community has grown into because of outside bias and influence. We have allowed negative gamers to tell us everyday that good games like Elder Scrolls are bad to enjoy. I have pros and cons about all my played games, but never do I resort to slander or bully the devs. No one is safe.
Even if you were to be playing the most whomesome game, don't be surprised if one day it happens to you too.
