Why you will never match the internet trolls
Hello, everyone. Just wanted to make a brief piece about something that's been on my mind since this morning.
Sometimes, I just have to admit that there is no greater power in the internet space, than the amount that influences have on people; whether they are youtubers, tick tockers, on twitter, where ever on social media.
What makes me believe this? Isn't it obvious? Do you not realize the amount of harm a single Youtuber with millions of views can do? Do you not notice the patterns? Need I explain every single...you know what.
If people won't believe my "influencers do real damage" assertion, then people don't really have an eye to how the internet works at all.
It's not a bad thing to gain a surplus of followers. Or views. That has never been the problem. The problem has always been in the message that you can deliver to your millions of viewers. THAT message is what I mean that not everybody uses their platform responsibly.
Just compare someone that makes a normal gameplay video to a person that simply rants about a game. Think about the difference they cause.
It has come to a point where our very idea of criticism is on the fence when people can no longer separate a rant from a critical review.
To me, criticism is a mature and professional field. But to the internet, criticism becomes a childish tantrum of nitpicks, slurs, and personal slander whether to game developers, gamers, or game companies.
So, as you can imagine someone that's been on the internet for a long time now, the toxic levels of the internet have sunk into my skin and made me ill and allergic to most commentaries.
ESPECIALLY, when it comes to people's opinion on gaming. It's just, gaming viewpoints at this time have become nothing more than bandwagon ideas. And thats sad.
Because variety streamers jump on a new game release not because they like it but because its trending.
Then you have gamer opinion's and their consumer "high ground" mentality.
Gamer's are the most flimsy of them all! One day they hate CDPR and Cyberpunk, the next they love CDPR and Cyberpunk. Or, when they "love" another game BECAUSE it's not the other one that's being criticized. Like with Starfield, so many rushed to bash that game for the smallest of things and all of a sudden other space games started getting newer "fans."
OR
the worst is when people compare 2 games with completely different publishers, gameplay, and mechanics.
Like Judging Cyberpunk harshly BECAUSE its not GTA.
or Judging Starfield BECAUSE its not CYBERPUNK.
Or judging Skyrim BECAUSE its an older game release.
OR SIMPLY HATING SKYRIM BECAUSE IT MANAGED TO GET AN SE UPDATE, A SWITCH PORT, A VR PORT, AND A 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
...as everyone complains that it's simply being "re-released" when its not, it's been adapted beautifully.
I have my own opinions about Skyrim, but that's for my Bethesda blogs. Because I am a fan of Bethesda games and I actually understand what they release and when and what they are working on first. Unlike the average internet troll.
ALL THIS, to showcase that just by writing the truth, the internet can already spin my words around and call me a BOOTLICKER. Just by stating the facts! Isn't that crazy?
People have forgotten that there is such a thing as loyalty. As in, I like the Pokemon Company and what they release, even though I might not always like the latest game they make.
And yet, for all this clarity, this is a simple blog to remind everyone that nothing I wrote here matters to the internet crowds. Unless I can somehow be a giant youtuber with millions of views, I will have 0 chance of making these points heard. Therefore, this is where we are today. With Youtubers and toxic twitter trolls controlling the media by telling people what is good and what is bad because that's what's trending. Ohhh, don't you dare go against the hype!
Don't you dare be like me and like Cyberpunk when it was hated.
You might be in the same irony now of seeing everyone love Cyberpunk all of a sudden because the internet trolls have allowed you to love it again.
